Twelve years ago, I received a call from someone who knew we were in the market for a cat and asked if I’d take a sickly kitten. Foolishly (or perhaps not), we took on this project and named the little waif Carmelina.
From the onset, the kitty showed signs of weakness but not until a week or two later, did she become seriously ill. She was so thin that her ribs showed through her skimpy fur. Since she was not able to get up to eat, we fed her raw milk and egg yolk through an eye dropper. Her eyes were weepy with a vague look and she never purred.
Our boys lined a small basket with an old lamb’s wool and gently placed her in it. For days, Carmelina hardly moved and we were certain she’d die.
Based on research in my homeopathic repertory (a list of symptoms that correspond to specific remedies), it became quite clear to me that she needed Sulphur.
Except for one other incident later in her life (that I’ll write about in a future post), she’s remained full of the dickens ever since the day she was treated with Sulphur.
Carmelina is a tiny cat, but she’s a great mouser, purrs daily, has sparkling, inquisitive eyes, and a rich and robust life.
Vet bills? No way. Just a bottle of Sulphur that cost me $13.
Curing my family with homeopathy…..now that’s the cat’s meow.

When I first learned homeopathy, I needed a guinea pig to try out my new found knowledge. The candidate? Our pet guinea pig! The results were nothing short of amazing. I awoke one morning to find her lame, dragging her back legs behind her. I put some pellets of Sulphur in her water bottle and by the next day, she was scurrying around her cage as usual. Sulphur—the go-to remedy for pets!
I don’t have any pets, but I have heard some great stories of homeopathy and the healing of horses.
How about itching in dogs? I keep assuming fleas though I have only seen one on them. I have treated with a couple of doses of sulphur but have also used ledum assuming bug bites of some form. Maybe I should give them both 3 or 4 doses of sulphur. I have vacuumed with salt. I have also attempted to bathe them in salt water. That is a trick considering they are 4.5 mo Newfoundland/ Great Pyrenees.
Just like spotting one mouse in the house means there are many, fleas too are rarely single! One of the best methods for keeping dogs from getting fleas is to feed them a diet of raw meat. Having said this, if fleas are indeed the cause, then it will take an all-out effort of daily vacuuming, herbs, homeopathics, etc to get rid of them. If it turns out not to be a flea infestation, then Sulphur 30 can be considered . Generally, its repeated twice daily for a week. Ledum isn’t indicated since they’ll continue biting. You have to get rid of fleas before using Ledum.
Bravo…wonderful story…we have many as well…like the day our milk cow was down!
We love colloidal silver as well for weepy eyes & our kitties always “puurck” right up after a good squirt or two of it…thank you for your insight Joette
Fascinating! I’m wondering why Sulphur is a good choice for animals that are not “bred nor vaccinated”. Would it be suitable for one that has been vaccinated and sickly w/chronic ear problems too? Her ears are so bad that the cat seems deaf.
Sulphur also works for those who are not bred or vaccinated, but It’s too hard to know without taking the case. Sulphur works well for those who have not been tinkered with. It’s a simpler remedy for a simpler situation.
Thank you! I’m going to try this for our ginger Tom who has FIV and is the sweetest cat ever, but always seems to be sick with weepy eyes or lame paws. He was a barn kitten who was abandoned by his mother and had a poor start in life nutritionally. I’m not totally sure that Sulphur is the right remedy for him though because he always smells pretty good – clean and outdoorsy.
After adopting my puppy last September, he came with a case of ringworm that I ended up getting too. A few days and some homeopathic treatments later, we were both fine! I’ve also been using homeopathy to help with his hyperactivity (more like ADHD than your typical puppy energy) and his anxiety (both of which I have a feeling were the result of his rabies vaccine he received before I adopted him), and I am seeing a world of difference! Yesterday was his 1st birthday, and we’ve come a long ways in the last few months!
What a great story! Glad you’re both doing well.
