While I was hoping for at least one recommended remedy, I had a feeling that this would be the response, however. Of note, I think there already has been some improvement now that more of the medication has left her system.
Still, I wish there was more I can do in this situation, but my husband’s family dynamics prove rather difficult to navigate, not to mention my own limitations within my own household and responsibilities.
In this case, prayer will be the medicine of choice.

This particular post concerning recovering from surgery is of great interest to me at this time because my grandmother-in-law recently had open-heart surgery. As far as I know there were no complications with the surgery itself; however, she is currently experiencing a great deal of side-effects from either the anesthesia and/or the pain medication because she has been become very paranoid and agitated – if one didn’t know better you would think she was in an advanced stage of alzheimer’s or dementia.

Throughout her stay in ICU and recovery, she continually asked to leave the hospital stating that she was being held there against her will and was very distrusting of the nursing staff. Even while at home her agitation and paranoia continued and someone had to always be present to keep an eye on her.

The current situation is that she is now being held and observed at a Mental Rehabilitation facility due to being “Baker Acted” (too long to write out here).

Are you aware of a remedy for this kind of paranoid reaction/behavior? I fear though that even if there is there will not be a way to have this administered to her in scheduled intervals due to visitation restrictions. I do not know of a release date for her to come home.

Despite the odds, any suggestions are welcomed.
